Summer Camping - Your Essential Checklist
your essential checklist
The thermometer dial is getting higher. The sunny days are more frequent. Summer is just round the corner. And with it is your next camping adventure. Camping represents wonderful freedom - it's a chance to relax and unwind in nature. Whilst it’s great to be at one with nature, there’s a few essential items you need to ensure your trip is both restful and stress free.
Summer time and the camping is easy
Every trip needs some planning and preparation to make sure it goes well. Have you checked your equipment since last summer? Make sure that you have the basics covered: enough tent pegs, awnings, sleeping bags, mats etc. The next stage is to ensure you have everything to make your summer trip a resounding success.
A goodnight’s sleep
Camping doesn't necessarily mean you have to rough it. There’s no reason why a night under canvas shouldn’t be your best sleep ever. Taking a few essential items will help to guarantee it.
Nights outdoors can be colder than you think, even in the height of summer. Make sure that you have a quality sleeping bag as well as a blanket, just in case. A self-inflating mattress also offers both comfort and ease. Don’t forget your socks either, as keeping your feet warm helps to insulate the rest of your body.
Dining al fresco
Life outdoors can boost your appetite, and there's nothing quite like al fresco dining. But before you head out into nature, you need to think about your outdoor kitchen. Camping cool boxes are essential to make sure that your food and drink stays fresh, and you could even buy an electric cool box that plugs into your car or motorhome.
Whether you decide to use a camping stove, a BBQ or both, don’t forget you’ll need equipment to cook with. Lightweight pans, a kettle, a sharp knife and a stove will set you up for being a top camping chef. Once the food is ready, you’ll need plates, cutlery and cups ready to demolish your outdoor feast.
The great outdoors
No one wants to be standing during dinner. A range of camping furniture makes eating out as well as relaxing a perfect pleasure. Camping tables and chairs are light, foldable and practical. After the meal, what better way to end your day than sitting in your chair, gazing at the myriad of stars?
Be protected!
One aspect that can spoil a camping trip is not being prepared for the weather and protected for life outdoors. No one can guarantee the weather, wherever you go and whichever season. Waterproof gear is important, and remember that a parasol can double up as an umbrella. Likewise, starry nights are awesome, but biting nocturnal insects are less so. Make sure you have repellent, candles and coil to ward off the wee beasties.
Waking up to sunshine is also glorious. By midday though, you need to make sure that your skin is protected. Pack sun screen with a good SPF factor - the only meat cooking should be on the BBQ. Likewise, a basic first aid kit should always be part of your summer camping essentials.
